Frida Kahlo Perler Beads

Image
Last weekend I was in Menorca to celebrate my friend's birthday. To and fro in four days. I was with two other Dutch friends of her and we arrived Thursday evening and went back Sunday morning. A flash visit. But in that little time I managed to read out the book The Lacuna by Barbara Kingsolver, one of my favorite authors. The book tells about Frida Kahlo and that happens to be my favorite painter. Such a colorful lady with a great style and a strong personality, who made beautiful art .A while ago I found this Perler Beads pattern of Frida Kahlo. I didn't use Perler Beads for a while, so I really felt like making this portrait just after reading The Lacuna.  ~*~ My Butterfly Lamp was featured by Creative Jewish Mom! Thank you, Sara! My Cat Mochila was featured by Ginx Craft ! Thank you!

Gertie's Peter Pan Blouse

Image
A couple of months ago I bought a book about sewing vintage clothing. I really love vintage clothes (as you may have guessed by my Wanted posts) and I love sewing, but to find nice patterns now a days isn't a simple task. The book is written by Gretchen Hirsch (Gertie) and not only is she describing in detail how to get certain skills, like making button holes, how to sew a nice lining and such, she also added a lot of very nice patterns. I want to make them ALL, so that says enough about the beauty of the designs. Today I show the first item I made from her book, the Peter Pan Blouse.  I especially love the back of the blouse, with lots of buttons. I bought the buttons for the Lady Tie I made recently, because I like the pearl shell look of them. They are actually press-studs. 'Why don't you make it easy on yourself', I thought to myself, when I started with the blouse and came to the part of making button holes. 'Why don't you use the press-stud...

Dress for ME

Image
My dress is finished! And I mean MY dress. I hardly make anything for myself (I rather buy), but because I saw a nice pattern I thought ‘Well, let’s give it a try’. The work description wasn’t very clear, though, so I couldn’t figure out exactly how to apply the lapel collar to the dress, and it took hours and hours of trial and error before I finished the collar. My patience was considerably put to the test. But now that the dress is hanging from a clothes hanger to show off, I’m quite content with how the dress and the collar looks! Only have to sew on some black buttons and then it's ready to wear. So, what do you think? ~*~ Next project has started already: another dress for my two year old. I want to make a crochet/sewing-combination dress. For the crochet I’m using some remaining yarns. The tutorial for the crochet flowers you can find here . For the dress itself I’m using a baby sheet. My little one has a Big Bed now, so the sheet doesn’t fit anymore. Good thi...

Happy Valentine's Day!

Image
Happy Valentine’s Day! Look what I got from my husband (I didn’t expect a present at all, because my husband, Dutchman that he is, doesn’t care for holidays at all and especially not for ‘commercial holidays’, as he finds Valentine’s Day is): It’s an adorable book about friendship and love between different animals, with a lot of pictures. One of the friendships is between a (very big) rat and a cat; that one I like the most. Another one I like is the friendship between a Siberian Husky and a polar bear. The most touching picture in the book is one of a macaque who’s carrying a cat in his paws, as carefully as any mother would carry her baby. So sweet! This book is really perfect as a gift for Valentine’s Day. ~*~ What I made this year for Valentine's Day: I found this 'woven heart' at the Paper Matrix , but found it quite difficult to make. My heart didn't exactly end up the same as the one I found at the Paper Matrix, but...
