Howling at the Moon

My daughters had Fall Vacation last week and my husband thought it would be nice to make a little road trip to our neighboring countries instead of a flight vacation to a sunny place. We bought a Lonely Planet of Germany, since we already had one of Belgium, and looked for a couple of places we could go to. We started in Leuven and Mechelen in Belgium.  Our first day was in Leuven, a beautiful University Town, were we did some sight seeing, shopping and eating in a delicious restaurant totally dedicated to burgers (also vegetarian, yay!) Next day we went to Mechelen. Also a beautiful little city, but more of the same. Last week my parents celebrated their fiftieth wedding day! Can you imagine that? Fifty years of marriage! I'm only just at the beginning of that.  My brother, sister and I organized a family day as a surprise. Early in the morning we went to my parents with our husbands and wife and the four grand children and woke them up with tooters, whistles and whoops. They were totally suprised (which surprised me in return, because which children would silently let pass by a day like this).  We first drank coffee and ate the apple pie that I baked (at six in the morning I was busy in my kitchen already, so the pie would be fresh and still a bit warm, which is best for apple pie as we all know). After coffee and after my parents had dressed we went to the city of Volendam, a little place where people still dress in folkloric costumes, well, at least the older people. My daughters had another vacation a couple of weeks ago, so we went to the zoo. A zoo that not only accomodates present-day animals but also offers a home to some (fake, of course) pre historic specimens.  Unfortunately my daughters only could visit the dino park together with their parents, because a dino egg that was on the edge of hatching was stolen by a nutty professor. His plan was to clone the dino that was inside to make a lot of money with it. After a lot of puzzle solving and searching our 'expedition' was lucky enough to find the egg and steal it back from the professor, but we heard his hysterical laugh in the forest all the time. It was not before we brought the egg back to the scientists that my youngest daughter could relax.
