My first doily

I always wanted to crochet a doily someday and guess what...: it finally happened! I don't know yet where I will leave it, because honestly I don't really have furniture that matches with doilies, but I really wanted to make one. They make me think of spring, especially the ones that look like flowers. I love tulips and red, so I made a red one with a tulip-like  pattern.

The pattern I found at Crochet Plaisir.

  1. it's pretty! I'm the same with doilies, I love making them and like how they look, but they don't really fit in with my modern home!

  2. Beautiful! I've never made one; same thing with my house, they wouldn't really match. Great job :-)

  3. This is really pretty...you did a fantastic job.
Maybe if you frame it in a small frame with a mat, it will look pretty in your bedroom or bath. I think you did so well on it that it SHOULD be framed. :)

    1. Thanks, Patty! I just looked at the drawings. In december I crocheted snowflakes and in the book I used for the patterns they used the same symbols, so that's how I could 'read' the pattern for the doily.

    1. Thank you, Shelia! I made some snowflakes in december and for the flakes I had to crochet in rounds, too, so I guess that made it easier to do.

    1. Yes, I am! I did snowflakes before, so I knew how to crochet in circles, but never made a larger project like a doily. Thanks for visiting and leaving such a nice comment!

  21. Congratulations, your first doily is so wonderful!! ♥ I have a similar problem: My furniture would match with doilies indeed, but there's not enough place for all the doilies I'd like to crochet ;-).

  23. The doily is very nice. I am not sure why a doily doesn't fit in any home. They are pretty wonderful under lamp bases to keep the furniture unscratched. And you can customize the size so that none of the doily goes past the edge of the base. But, that's just me.

  24. Frame it! It's beautiful and needs to be shown. ;)

  27. The doily is beautiful. There have been times when I was so hooked on thread crochet.

You could do one of the following with it. You could mount it and frame it. Or, you could mount it on a fabric pillow top. I don't have furniture where a doily would be appropriate either. Considering that I'm 71 years old, I doubt if there is anyone currently alive who has furniture where doilies are appropriate. But they are so much fun to make.
