My first doily
I always wanted to crochet a doily someday and guess what...: it finally happened! I don't know yet where I will leave it, because honestly I don't really have furniture that matches with doilies, but I really wanted to make one. They make me think of spring, especially the ones that look like flowers. I love tulips and red, so I made a red one with a tulip-like pattern.
The pattern I found at Crochet Plaisir.
it's pretty! I'm the same with doilies, I love making them and like how they look, but they don't really fit in with my modern home!
ReplyDeleteThanks, Wendy!
DeleteBeautiful! I've never made one; same thing with my house, they wouldn't really match. Great job :-)
ReplyDeleteThank you!
DeleteThis is really pretty...you did a fantastic job.
ReplyDeleteMaybe if you frame it in a small frame with a mat, it will look pretty in your bedroom or bath. I think you did so well on it that it SHOULD be framed. :)
Thanks, that's a great idea! Maybe I will do that! Liz
DeleteI have always wanted to make one too. I love it in red! I checked where you got your directions and did you just look at the drawings because they are not in English...
ReplyDeleteThanks, Patty! I just looked at the drawings. In december I crocheted snowflakes and in the book I used for the patterns they used the same symbols, so that's how I could 'read' the pattern for the doily.
DeleteI am embarrased to call mine my 12th Doily:-) You did a great job! I love it.
ReplyDeleteWow, that's a lot! Maybe I will make another one someday. Thanks for visiting, Sara!
Deletesuper pretty doily. I used to love to crochet doilies when I was young. I never have the time any more...but I do think it's fun!
ReplyDeleteThank you, Nita!
DeleteOh, what a beautiful doily! You did a wonderful job. I crochet and am very impressed this is your first!
ReplyDeleteBe a sweetie,
Shelia ;)
Thank you, Shelia! I made some snowflakes in december and for the flakes I had to crochet in rounds, too, so I guess that made it easier to do.
DeleteHow beautiful! Love the color too! Thanks so much for sharing.Visiting from Small Things blog party.

Yes, I am! I did snowflakes before, so I knew how to crochet in circles, but never made a larger project like a doily. Thanks for visiting and leaving such a nice comment!

DeleteCongratulations, your first doily is so wonderful!! ♥ I have a similar problem: My furniture would match with doilies indeed, but there's not enough place for all the doilies I'd like to crochet ;-).
ReplyDeleteThank you, Natas!

Thanks, Hakan!
DeleteThe doily is very nice. I am not sure why a doily doesn't fit in any home. They are pretty wonderful under lamp bases to keep the furniture unscratched. And you can customize the size so that none of the doily goes past the edge of the base. But, that's just me.
ReplyDeleteThank you, Joan!
DeleteFrame it! It's beautiful and needs to be shown. ;)
ReplyDeleteThanks, Hilary! That's so sweet of you!
DeleteI have always wanted to too, but it's never happened. Congrats to you! Thanks for linking with me.
ReplyDeleteThanks, Connie!
DeleteI am so impressed you made a doily. They always look so elegant and difficult. I can't tell you how nice to know this beautiful art is not lost.
ReplyDeleteCindy
They're not so difficult as they look, I know now :-) ! Thanks for your nice comment! Liz
DeleteThe doily is beautiful. There have been times when I was so hooked on thread crochet.
ReplyDeleteYou could do one of the following with it. You could mount it and frame it. Or, you could mount it on a fabric pillow top. I don't have furniture where a doily would be appropriate either. Considering that I'm 71 years old, I doubt if there is anyone currently alive who has furniture where doilies are appropriate. But they are so much fun to make.
Thanks for sharing your ideas! It's on my table now, but I love the idea of applying it on a pillow cover, so I guess it will end up there! Thanks!
DeleteI love making doilies, though haven't made any in years!
ReplyDeleteThis one sure is pretty.
