Gertie's Peter Pan Blouse

A couple of months ago I bought a book about sewing vintage clothing. I really love vintage clothes (as you may have guessed by my Wanted posts) and I love sewing, but to find nice patterns now a days isn't a simple task. The book is written by Gretchen Hirsch (Gertie) and not only is she describing in detail how to get certain skills, like making button holes, how to sew a nice lining and such, she also added a lot of very nice patterns. I want to make them ALL, so that says enough about the beauty of the designs. Today I show the first item I made from her book, the Peter Pan Blouse.

I especially love the back of the blouse, with lots of buttons. I bought the buttons for the Lady Tie I made recently, because I like the pearl shell look of them. They are actually press-studs. 'Why don't you make it easy on yourself', I thought to myself, when I started with the blouse and came to the part of making button holes. 'Why don't you use the press-studs?'. So when the blouse was finished, I got the hammer and timmered away. Placing the buttons was finished in ten minutes :-) ! Ha, love that! And love the look of the buttons on this blouse!

Other great news on the blouse: turns out I made it two sizes to big, so I'm actually slimmer than I thougt!

Gertie's book is called Gerties New Book for Better Sewing and you can buy it everywhere.

She also has a blog: Gertie's New Blog for Better Sewing
