Crochet Birthday Crown

After sewing a Birthday Dress I also made a matching crown. It's not made of felt, like the other crowns (here and here) I made before, but I crocheted it and embellished it with rhinestones and glitter. Almost ready for the party now!

    Okay, how did you do it? Is it Filet? Whatever it is, it is adorable?

    Is it made so you can make it larger for each brthday and change the number?

      Hi Paula! I used a shelf edge pattern and stitched felt behind it. The crown itself measures about half of the head, the other half is made of elastic. I use it for just one birthday and will make another one next year (because I love to make things for my daughters's birthdays).

      I didn't have a real pattern for it, but used a pattern for a crocheted edge for cupboards . I crocheted about 25 cm and for the part on the back of the head I used elastic, so the crown wouldn't be to tight. After that I embellished the crown with rhinestones. To solidify the crown, I put felt at the back.

Cranberry Orange Trifle

For the last years I always made decorated cakes for desert, but this year my eyes fell on a delicious looking trifle, so I thought 'Why not try something else this year'. I altered the ingredients a bit to my own likes and this is the recipe that came out: What you need box of cake mix (plus named ingredients on the box; usually eggs and butter) 2 oranges (zest and juice) 250 grams cranberries 400 grams sugar 250cc whipped cream 250cc mascarpone vanilla essence  What to do Make the cakemix as instructed on the box Add the zest of one orange to the batter Bake the cake according to instructions on the box Let cool off Squeeze the juice out of both oranges, put into a pan Add cranberries, zest of the other orange and 400 grams sugar Cook until cranberries are all popped, while stirring every now and then Let cool off Whip the cream until stiff and mix with the mascarpone Cut the cake into squares of 3x3cm Make layers, starting with the cake squares, then the cranberry mix, than ...

Crochet Fly Curtain

Last week I saw this nice book, called Haken & Kleur (meaning Crochet & Color in Dutch; here's the blog of one of the authors with a link to where you can buy the book), full of crochet patterns. I bought it and after just a little bit of paging my choice fell on the Fly Curtain. I só need a fly curtain. When I do not close my door my house is invaded by flies, mosquitoes, bees and wasps.  I started to crochet, but when the weather got better and better the amount of bugs in my house increased faster and faster, so I had to speed up my crocheting.
