Granny Go Round Jumper

Image
Someone I follow on Insta shared this nice top she made, together with a link to the Etsy store where the pattern is available. I liked the pattern so much that I made one for my daughter in hot pink (although it looks more like red in the pictures) and white. I am planning to make one for myself as well (in other colors, though), because I really love the result. Old Plant Pots Looking Like New

Image
Years ago I bought those terracotta pots in Menorca, an island in the Mediterranean Sea I go to almost every year since I was a toddler. They were hanging on the wall in the backyard of our former house and when we moved to another house I brought them with me, but they were still unused on a stack of plant pots in the back of our garden, covered in a green rash and a bit damaged. I thought about throwing them away and buying new ones when in Menorca (whenever that could take place in these pandemic times). But I'm glad I didn't, because recently we started to rearrange our garden and suddenly I knew what to do with the pots: paint them and give them a new purpose. One of the things my husband and I want for the garden is to only use plants in certain colors, to give the garden more cohesion. I chose white, light pink, burgundy and black (I love black flowers and there are actually more black flowers than I thought). Because the pots were already blue and g

Lizzy the Honey Bee

Today it's World Bee Day so this is the day to share this cute little crocheted bee. My full name is Melissa, which is (old) Greek for honey bee, so I feel a bit related to honey bees. In the Amigurumi Treasures book by Erinna Lee I found a great pattern for a ladybug, which I altered into a honey bee. Love the result! Porch Lantern

Image
My husband is busy every weekend renovating the fixer upper we bought almost two years ago. For the porch that  he finished a couple of weeks ago I crocheted a lantern, so we have some light while the sun is setting.      Pattern :  Fairy Tale Lights from Aan de Haak, issue #25 Yarn : Capri Black by Katia    ~*~ Appa , the creature from Avatar that I made for my daughter's friend, was featured by Oombawka Design !

Wood Burned Plant Labels

One of my wishes for our new house was to start a kitchen garden. One part of the house has a flat roof, so since a couple of weeks I'm busy to set up my little garden there. Far out of reach for snails. This year is the experimenting phase, with vegetables and flowers in pots, pans and buckets, but when all goes well I will ask my husband to make two large elevated garden beds on the roof for more serious vegetable growing business.  At the moment I'm growing seeds behind the living room window and planting them over in bigger pots once they're large enough. To see what's planted in each little pot I made plant labels. Last week I showed you the charcuterie board that I decorated with my new pyrography pen; this week I used it to do some wood burning on food skewers to make plant labels for my vegetable garden.   ~*~ This week my Wood Burned Charcuterie Board was featured by My Uncommon Slice of Suburbia !     ~*~   My Macrame Garden Lights were featured by Karin&

Appa from Avatar

Image
My youngest daughter's friend from school has her birthday this week and my daughter asked me to make Appa as a present for her from a crochet pattern she found on Pinterest. I didn't even know who's Appa, but she told me it's a creature from the series Avatar. Didnt know what Avatar is either, haha.  Anyway, here's Appa!   Pattern: Appa by Caitie Moore Yarn: various colors by Katia   ~*~   Rex the Dinosaur was featured by Oombawka Design and Artsy Fartsy Mama !

Macrame Garden Lights

As told before my husband and I bought a fixer upper almost two years ago, because what my husband likes to do the most on his days off is some serious home improvement. He does the renovating of the house entirely on his own, only in the weekends because on week days he has a totally different job, so things aren't going very fast, but they definitely are done good.  The last project on the house he finished this weekend: a small porch at the back of the house. I wanted a porch for years, so it's sort of a dream coming true.Unfortunately he weather wasn't very festive the last week, but I can't wait to sit on my own porch, drinking my morning coffee in the sun. For now I'm busy buying flowers and pots and making things to decorate the porch with, like these little macrame lights, made of glass jars and rope.       Tutorial: DIY Glass Rope Lantern by A Wonderful Thought ~*~ My Pyrographied Charcuterie Board was featured this week by An Arftul Mom , French Ethere
