Old Fashioned Granny Squares

Stash buster again (although not as much as would like). I have a lot cotton yarn in about every color, a mountain that seems to grow every year. Some weeks ago I found a couple of Delfts Blue tiles in an unpacked moving box. I inherited them from my grandmother and because I really love the tiles I want to hang them somewhere in my living room. Matching with the tiles I made the Canal House Cushions, but after finding another small cushion I thought of making another cushion in old fashioned granny squares, in the same colors. Yarn enough, so after some digging in the stash I found the right colors.




 

This is the result. Matches perfectly with my other cushions. The mountain of yarn hasn't dwindled very much after this project, but it's a start.

    What a beautiful pillow! I've been looking for new pillows for my couch. You've inspired me to save money and make my own! What a great way to use up all that yarn I've been hoarding for years. :D

    Your pillow is beautiful! I love the variety of your squares. I crochet simple g.s. dishcloths while my SO is driving us places. Great gifts, donation for our church bazaar, and inclusions in my theme baskets. This year I did 4 row ones to go with homemade facial scrub. My mom made us kids each an afghan--long before weighted blankets were in vogue!

Christmas Scrunchies (free pattern)

 Of all the things I made this year, Crocheted Scrunchie s were the biggest hit. My daughter wears them all the time, in her hair and/or on her arm, so I thought Christmas Scrunchies would be nice, too.  I'm happy to say my duaghter thinks this Christmas variety 'is just as great as the regular, no mom, even better'!  My daughter is thirteen now, so I'm wondering if it will last very much longer, that enthusiasm over mom made things, but I hope it does, because I really enjoy making things for my daughters.   How I made them: Round 1: 40 dc around a regular hair elastic, close with a slip stitch in the first sc (40) Change color Round 2: chain 2 (counts as the first dc), 2 dc in the same stitch, 3 dc in every sc of the previous round, close with a slip stitch in the chain stitch (120) Change color Round 3: chain 2 (counts as the first dc), 1 dc in the same stitch, 2 dc in every dc of the previous round,close with a slip stitch in the chain stitch (240) Change c

Crocheted Scrunchies

My daughter asked me to crochet some scrunchies for her. Not that much work, I thought, so one evening, after she went to bed, I started crocheting. Turned out next morning that the scrunchies that I made weren't exactly the ones she had in mind. She meant scrunchies like the fabric ones: a tunnel with a piece of elastic in it. Luckily she liked mine much better, so I got away well. Not sure if they will be in use as hair bands or bracelets, though. Teenagers think in mysterious ways, aren't they?
