Summer Skirts

Just this week I made the first sewn items for this summer: two skirts for my daughters. Before, I didn't feel like sewing at all and it was only after purchasing Gertie's new sewing book, named Gertie Sews Vintage Casual, that I wanted to make her Sailor Shorts and bought not only fabric for the shorts but also for skirts for my daughters. They're just simple circle skirts, nothing difficult.

I will show you the shorts another time, because it's not finished yet. I will be on vacation next week, so let's hope I can wear it by then. I have three weeks off (officially, but I've been at home for almost three months now because of some knee surgery with chondropicking, so seas of free time lay behind me).

The first week of our holidays we will spend in our own country, near our NP Hoge Veluwe, so let's pray for nice weather (not something man can be sure about in The Netherlands).
The next two weeks we will go to my most favorite place in the world: Menorca. Since I was five years old I came there almost every year, so maybe it's just nostalgia, but after seeing lots of other destinations, I still think Menorca is the prettiest of all.

Of course I will show you pictures afterwards. Although I'm two destinations behind, I think. Did I show you pictures of our trips to Paris, France and Antwerp, Belgium?

  1. Your Sweet Pear is very nice... as nice as the skirts you sewed for your daughters. I've seen many circle-skirts before but never with such a wonderful overskirt - it seems simple to sew though the effect is really great! I will try to do it "your way" at summer's end. Now, the weather is fine, the children have no School, so time for sewing will be rare. But autumn will come - that's sure!

  3. Those skirts are cute! I want to get better at sewing, but I know it'll just come with practice. This summer/month I'll be working on finishing a onesie type outfit for a baby and some shorts for me, but also probably a shirt or two as my belly keeps growing :)
