Festes de Sant Joan

A couple of days ago I came back from my trip to Menorca. It wasn't a very long stay this time, because I was visiting one of my best friends and we all know that if you want to stay best friends, you must not stay too long.

We went on a canoe trip from Cala Galdana to Cala Mitjana en visited some caves along the way.

It was also the week of the Festes de Sant Joan (celebrations of Saint John), which in Menorca, the town of Ciutadella to be specific, has to do a lot with horses. The most beautiful horses in the world you can find on the island of Menorca; slim and totally black. Pura raza Menorquina, they're called. I'm not a particularly big fan of horses, but this breed is fabulous.

The horses main feature is that they can walk on their hind legs (not all the time, of course, but a couple of steps). They're being trained for that all year long and the more steps they can make, the more the crowd goes wild.

 Dulces and nuts

And my personal favorite: pastissets (authentic Menorca cookies)

While I was on vacation my Candle Light was featured by Scrapality!

Thank you, Andrea!

  1. looks like an amazing trip! lovely photos :)

  2. Your photos are beautiful. I love those pictures of the water- so blue and stunning! I would love to be on one of those sailboats right now!

  3. I have never been to Menorca, it looks like a such a beautiful place to visit and I think it's not as touristic as Mallorca. We are in the South of Spain, so for us it would be a short flight. Now I really feel like going!!! Here they also celebrate the Night of San Juan, it's on the 23rd of June and everyone goes to the beach and lights up candles, it's really lovely!

  4. Liz, I have no knowledge at all of Menorca but I'm enchanted! That clear blue water is so pretty. The horses are amazing too. Looks a little like going back in time.

Thank you so much for joining Thoughts of Home on Thursday. We love having you.

  7. What a wonderful place you chose to go on vacation, and the time of the year was great because of the festes de Sant Joan!! I live in Mallorca, so we were really close! The horses show is amazing.
Congrats on your jar feature and thank you for sharing your trip with us at Sweet Inspiration

    1. Yes, it really is! Although I think it looks a lot like Mallorca. I go to Menorca almost every year, since I was five, but I can't get enough of the island. I've traveled to a lot of other places, but Menorca is the only place I always come back to. I just love that little island!

  8. I so enjoyed this post, Liz. I've been to Mallorca, but never Menorca. It looks amazing. Loved reading about the Festes de Sant Joan too. Thank you for sharing this post with us at the Hearth and Soul Hop. Have followed you on Pinterest and Instagram :-) Hope to 'see' you at Hearth and Soul again this week. The hop is open now.
